It’s a cliche´ that politicians resign or stop campaigns to “spend more time with family.”

This is a lie, of course, but it’s really good advice when it comes to anxiety. [Study](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21200073?ref=cjchilvers.com) [after](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16905719?ref=cjchilvers.com) [study](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2822182/?ref=cjchilvers.com) shows that being happy and healthy in life means spending more time with family and friends. It’s an anxiety killer.

But wait, I thought [solitude](https://www.cjchilvers.com/be-alone-without-being-lonely/) was the answer?

Both are effective in their proper amounts. It’s the strong bonds you build that keep you living longer and happier, able to spend time alone in the healthy way.

As much as you spend time improving yourself, spend time building stronger bonds to your closest allies, for both your sakes.

Make date nights with your spouse. Have a family movie night. Have a girls/boys night out. Our parents knew about the benefits of these things long before Netflix and social media filled our non-working hours.

It’s time to reclaim this invaluable face-to-face time.

And don’t forget to [schedule it](https://www.cjchilvers.com/stop-scheduling-your-anxiety/)!
